Your sleep has changed. Your energy isn't what it used to be. Maybe you're experiencing brain fog, unexpected mood changes, or a menstrual cycle that no longer feels predictable

Perimenopause may be part of the picture. And you deserve more than guesswork.

Could This Be Perimenopause?
Signs and Symptoms to Recognize

Perimenopause doesn't always announce itself with hot flashes or missed periods. Sometimes the earliest changes are subtle, and sometimes they affect parts of your life you wouldn't immediately associate with hormones.

Sleep & Fatigue

Difficulty falling asleep, waking during the night, night sweats, or feeling exhausted even when you thought you got enough rest.

Menstrual Changes

Periods becoming heavier, lighter, shorter, longer, or less predictable. Changes may be gradual and easy to overlook.

Brain Fog & Focus

Forgetting words, struggling to concentrate, or feeling less mentally sharp during work and everyday life.

Weight & Body Composition

Changes in weight distribution, muscle mass, or body composition despite familiar eating and exercise habits.

Mood & Anxiety

Increased irritability, anxiety, mood fluctuations, or feeling less resilient to stress than usual.

Hot Flashes, Intimacy & Physical Symptoms

Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, discomfort during intimacy, changes in sexual desire, or new joint and muscle discomfort.

You don't need to experience every symptom for perimenopause to be worth discussing. And because many of these concerns can have other causes, a thoughtful clinical evaluation matters.

Wondering If It Could Be Perimenopause?

You don't have to figure it all out on your own. Dr. Anne Wells takes a personalized, whole-person approach to understanding symptoms and helping women navigate this transition with clarity and confidence.

What Is Perimenopause, and When Does It Begin?

Perimenopause is the natural transition leading up to menopause, when the body's production of reproductive hormones begins to change. Rather than declining steadily, estrogen and progesterone levels can fluctuate significantly, sometimes creating noticeable changes in how you feel from one week or month to the next.

For most women, perimenopause begins in their 40s, although some notice changes earlier or later. This transition can last several years before menopause, which is reached after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.

One of the most surprising aspects of perimenopause is that symptoms can begin while your periods are still regular. Changes in sleep, mood, anxiety, energy, and menstrual patterns may develop gradually or seem to appear unexpectedly. Some women experience significant disruptions, while others notice relatively little change.

Because every woman's experience is different, understanding perimenopause involves more than checking hormone levels. Your symptoms, menstrual history, overall health, and individual circumstances all help tell the story. Other health conditions can also contribute to similar symptoms, making a thoughtful evaluation especially valuable.

At Adaptive Wellness, Dr. Anne Wells helps women understand these changes through individualized perimenopause care, available by telehealth throughout Washington State and in person in Mukilteo.

Perimenopause Treatment:
Finding the Right Approach for You

There is no single treatment plan that works for every woman.

At Adaptive Wellness, your care begins with a comprehensive review of your symptoms, medical history, health goals, and treatment preferences.

Depending on your needs, recommendations may include:

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for Perimenopause

Hormone therapy can be effective for certain bothersome symptoms, including hot flashes and night sweats. Whether it is appropriate depends on your medical history, individual risks, symptoms, and whether contraception is still needed.

Non-hormonal treatment options

Not everyone wants or is a candidate for hormone therapy. Evidence-based non-hormonal options and other approaches may be appropriate depending on the symptoms being treated.

Sleep, nutrition, movement, and lifestyle support

Sleep quality, resistance exercise, nutrition, stress, and daily routines all matter during midlife. Your plan should consider practical strategies that support your overall health.

Evaluation of overlapping health concerns

Fatigue, mood changes, weight changes, and difficulty concentrating are not always explained by perimenopause alone. Thyroid concerns, anemia, sleep disorders, medications, and other conditions may need consideration.

Individualized testing when appropriate

Testing can be valuable when it answers a specific clinical question. However, your symptoms, menstrual history, and overall health are often the most useful starting points for understanding perimenopause.

Hormone levels can fluctuate considerably during this transition, so a single test may not provide a definitive answer. Thoughtful testing can still help establish relevant baselines, investigate other possible contributors, and provide additional context for individualized care.

The goal is not to chase individual hormone numbers. It is to understand your clinical picture and choose treatments that are appropriate for you.

A More Personal Approach to Midlife Health

You have a full life. Your healthcare should help you navigate it, not become another complicated project to manage.

At Adaptive Wellness, Dr. Wells combines evidence-informed naturopathic and functional medicine with individualized clinical care.

Rather than treating sleep, hormones, metabolism, mood, and energy as unrelated concerns, she considers how these areas may interact while remaining attentive to other potential medical causes.

Appointments are intentionally unhurried. Your questions, health history, preferences, and goals help shape your care.

And when ongoing support makes sense, your relationship with Anne can continue beyond the first appointment, allowing your treatment plan to evolve as your needs change.
