Functional Medicine Care

Individualized care that looks beyond isolated symptoms to understand the bigger picture of your health.

Adaptive Wellness specializes in women’s midlife health. Dr. Anne Wells, ND, FMCP-M, also provides individualized naturopathic and functional medicine care for adult patients whose health concerns are a good fit for her approach.

Whether you are dealing with persistent fatigue, metabolic or weight changes, digestive concerns, hormonal symptoms, sleep problems, or simply feel that something in your health has changed, care begins by understanding the whole picture.

A Thoughtful, Whole-Person Approach

Health concerns do not always fit neatly into one category.

Changes in energy, digestion, sleep, weight, mood, hormones, and metabolic health may overlap or have multiple contributing factors. Rather than treating each symptom in isolation, Dr. Wells looks for patterns across your history, symptoms, lifestyle, laboratory findings, medications, supplements, and goals.

Her approach combines evidence-informed naturopathic medicine, functional medicine principles, conventional diagnostic testing, nutrition and lifestyle medicine, and prescription treatment when clinically appropriate.

The goal is not simply to add another treatment.

It is to understand what may be contributing to the problem, identify meaningful priorities, and develop a practical plan that fits your health and your life.

Areas We May Explore

Your evaluation is individualized rather than limited to a predetermined protocol.

Depending on your concerns, care may include consideration of:

Energy, Fatigue & Sleep

Persistent fatigue, poor sleep, reduced resilience, and brain fog can have overlapping contributors. Evaluation may consider sleep patterns, nutrition, metabolic health, hormonal factors, stress, medications, and other potential causes.

Metabolic Health & Weight

Changes in weight, appetite, insulin sensitivity, body composition, and metabolic markers can be influenced by many factors.

Care focuses on understanding those factors and developing sustainable strategies rather than relying on quick fixes.

Digestive Health

Bloating, reflux, bowel changes, food-related symptoms, and other digestive concerns can significantly affect quality of life.

Evaluation may include diet, lifestyle, medications and supplements, prior testing, and other potential contributors.

Hormonal & Thyroid Concerns

Hormones can influence energy, metabolism, mood, sleep, sexual health, and overall well-being.

When appropriate, Dr. Wells evaluates hormonal and thyroid concerns within the larger clinical picture rather than relying on a single symptom or laboratory value.

Preventive & Long-Term Health

You do not need to wait for a major problem to become proactive about your health.

Functional medicine care can also focus on understanding risk factors, improving cardiometabolic health, supporting healthy aging, and establishing sustainable habits for the years ahead.

What to Expect

Start With a Conversation

New patients may begin with a complimentary 15-minute introductory call.

This is an opportunity to briefly discuss what you are looking for, learn about Dr. Wells’ approach, and determine whether Adaptive Wellness is likely to be a good fit.

The introductory call is not a medical evaluation or treatment visit.

Comprehensive First Visit

If you decide to begin care, your first full visit is intentionally in-depth.

Dr. Wells reviews your health history, current concerns, previous testing, medications and supplements, lifestyle factors, and goals.

Rather than assuming the answer before the evaluation begins, the objective is to identify patterns, clarify priorities, and determine what additional information may be useful.

Testing When It Adds Value

Additional laboratory or diagnostic testing may be recommended when it is likely to meaningfully inform your care.

Testing is individualized. More testing is not automatically better testing.

A Personalized Plan

Your recommendations may include nutrition and lifestyle changes, targeted supplementation, prescription treatment, additional evaluation, referrals, or follow-up monitoring when appropriate.

The plan is designed around you rather than a standardized protocol.

Follow-Up That Reflects Your Needs

Some patients primarily need an in-depth evaluation and periodic follow-up.

Others benefit from closer support while a treatment plan is being implemented, monitored, and adjusted.

Your follow-up can reflect the complexity of your concerns, how your body responds, and the amount of support you prefer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Heading 3

Do you only see women?

No. Adaptive Wellness has a particular clinical focus on women’s midlife health, but Dr. Wells also works with other adult patients whose health concerns are a good fit for her naturopathic and functional medicine approach.

Do I need to know what is causing my symptoms before I schedule?

No. One purpose of a comprehensive evaluation is to help organize the clinical picture, identify priorities, and determine what deserves further investigation.

Will I need extensive laboratory testing?

Not necessarily. Testing is individualized and recommended when the results are likely to meaningfully influence evaluation or treatment.

Do you prescribe medications?

When clinically appropriate, prescription medications may be considered as part of an individualized treatment plan. Care may also include nutrition, lifestyle strategies, supplements, or other therapies depending on your needs.

Can I receive care by telehealth?

Yes. Adaptive Wellness provides secure telehealth care throughout Washington State. In-person appointments are also available in Mukilteo.

What happens after my first visit?

That depends on what you need. Some patients return for individual follow-up visits as questions arise. Others benefit from more structured support while treatment is initiated, monitored, and adjusted.

Dr. Wells will discuss appropriate next steps with you based on your evaluation.

Is this primary care?

Adaptive Wellness provides focused naturopathic and functional medicine care and is not intended to replace all of your routine or emergency medical care. Maintaining an appropriate primary-care relationship is encouraged.
